Written on December 22, 2009

The latest stable openSUSE distribution was released on November 12 - about one month ago. I'm running this 11.2 version from the day it was released. And in my opinion it's a significant improvement over the previous version. This article will describe how I installed and configured openSUSE 11.2 and how I'm experiencing it. I'll also cover the most important changes with regard to previous versions. Read more.

Nokia E71 drowned. Welcome Android!

Written on November 13, 2009

Not so long ago, I accidentally dropped my Nokia E71 in the water. It did not survive the drowning, and as a consequence I had to buy a new cellphone. I picked the HTC Magic with the Google Android OS. This short article will describe how the drowning happened and what's Android like. Read more.

My holiday experiences

Written on October 5, 2009

Finally I've found some time to blog about my past holiday. Meanwhile classes started again. In this first semester I'm taking 4 courses: 2 related to computer sciences and 2 business related. And if all goes well, it should be my final year. Afterwards I should have obtained a master grade in computer sciences.
I'll also speak about my latest hardware experiences. That's because I've had some bad luck these last weeks.
Normally I should be studying Formal Systems Modelling right now. However I've catched a cold and my concentration isn't what it's supposed to be - due to headache. Blogging on the other hand is more pleasant at this time. Read more.

Making my own radio

Written on July 6, 2009

While I am thinkering with stuff, I like to listen to the radio - more precisely to Studio Brussels. But sometimes I prefer to listen to one of my own CD's. Until now I used the radio that I have received for my Solemn Communion about 10 years ago. This AM/FM radio is capable of playing audio cassettes and CD's. But I was growing tired of burning new compilations of about 20 songs or 80 minutes - the normal storage capacity of a 700 MB audio CD. This article will describe how I made myself a nice looking radio. But don't be fooled, I won't cover the internal electronics. Instead of starting from scratch, I built this radio from my previous car radio. So basically all I had to do was connecting the appropriate wires with 2 speakers and generating a voltage of 12 V. This radio would be a significant improvement because it has many other features and it's also capable of playing MP3 CD's, USB flash drives and SD/MMC cards. Read more.

The fourth in the Grand Theft Auto series was released on April 29 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Windows users had to be patient for more than half a year, because this game was released on December 3 for PC.
The most recent Grand Theft Auto game has undergone some substantial changes to the gameplay. This review will describe the most significant ones. In doing so, I'll refer rather often to its predecessors. I'll also give an overview of the main storyline and its side missions.
At the time of writing, the first of the two planned episodic expansion packs was released on Xbox Live: 'The Lost and Damned'. Read more.

Choosing the best OS for my ThinkPad X300

Written on February 5, 2009

Exams are finally behind me, although it was a relatively calm period. I even had the time to complete the Grand Theft Auto IV main storyline. We now have a short intersemestrial break so I can spend some time with my girlfriend and my ThinkPad! After installing the Windows 7 beta and openSUSE with KDE4, I decided to welcome GNOME again. This discussion comprises the main part of this article. I also made some modifications to this website. Read more.
